The Academy opened this September, 2016, in brand new buildings and welcomed children in their Reception year. Eventually the school will be available for up to 420 pupils with a nursery class.
The building has been designed by Stride Treglown and was delivered by MySpace on behalf of Persimmon Homes.
Built on the former airfield site, the school has been designed to reflect its surroundings, with extensive landscaping, a light material palette of grey and blue bricks and a dining hall canopy that mimics the form of aeroplane wings. Within the school building itself, an open plan learning space is included known as ‘The Street’. The purpose is so that shared teaching spaces can be viewed from the classrooms positioned around the perimeter, allowing for flexible learning and a broad range of activities that will adapt with building use in the future.
The school is designed to serve a dual function to the community, with Sports England standard sports facilities, meeting rooms and changing areas available for public use.
